This Victorian lady represents Summer as part of a series of the 4 seasons. The panel was very badly damaged and underwent complete restoration as the images below show. Below Summer is Autumn - the most badly damaged panel of the set of 4. A new piece of matching glass was painted and inserted. The set of 4 restored panels are shown below this. The sections were part of a larger panel built for Sir John McCoy, shipowner and Mayor of Gateshead. The panel was called Navigation and was installed into Sir John's house, Springfield (no longer existing) near Gateshead. The date 1883 and Fitzroy Square appear on the panel. When Sir John McCoy moved south the panel came with him and appears to have been left on the roof of a building in the London docks for years from where it was salvaged (in pieces) in the 1970's.
